O adufe, instrumento tradicional português, é um pandeiro bimembranofone de forma quadrangular. Este instrumento foi introduzido na Península Ibérica pelos árabes, entre os séculos VIII e XII.
O adufe é constituído por duas membranas, os lados do caixilho medem normalmente 45 cm e o seu interior é composto por sementes ou pequenas soalhas, que têm como objectivo enriquecer a sua sonoridade. O adufe é segurado pelos polegares das duas mãos e pelo indicador da mão direita, sendo percutido pelos restantes dedos.
Actualmente, este instrumento executado exclusivamente por mulheres, é utilizado sobretudo na Beira Baixa (distrito de Castelo Branco), sendo que os ritmos nele percutidos acompanham o canto, nas festas e romarias.

Adufe
The timbrel, which is a traditional Portuguese instrument, is a quadrangular dual membrane phone tambourine. This instrument was introduced in the Iberian Peninsula by the Arabs, between the eighth and twelfth centuries.
The tambourine is composed by two membranes, the sides of the frame generally measure 45 cm and the interior is composed of small seeds or “soalhas”, that aim to enrich the produced sound. The tambourine is held by the thumbs of both hands and the right index finger, being reverberated by the other fingers.
Currently, this instrument is exclusively performed by women and is mainly used in Beira Baixa (Castelo Branco). The percussive rhythms go along with songs during some festivities.
